Reference ranges are not as fixed as they appear. They differ between laboratories and between the assays those laboratories run, so a result described as borderline at one clinic may be described differently at another. That is not a reason for cynicism, but it is a reason to ask who reviewed your results, what they compared them to, and whether anything is being repeated before conclusions are drawn.
